Happy to see two favorite albums recognized— The Soothsayer and The Procrastinator. You can almost hear Steely Dan being conceived and born in The Big Push.
I’d love you to go back to analysing jazz artists’ outputs rather than promoting major labels new release schedules. The feature on bootlegs was brilliant, the record store worker insight was great, but now you’re looking like you’re simply on the pay check for Warners and Universal.
Thanks, Steve. I appreciate the feedback and your point of view. I do plan on more pieces like those you referenced and enjoyed (thank you for the kind words). I am genuinely excited for the reissues that Blue Note (and others) are doing, and while my enthusiasm certainly serves the label's interests, that’s not my prime directive, nor are they incentivizing me to write here. A motivating force is a growing audience of younger jazz and vinyl enthusiasts who won’t struggle with their initial Miles, Trane, and Monk purchases but who might overlook or miss a great record like Lee Morgan's ’The Procrastinator.’ I’m pleased that a lot more jazz is in circulation on vinyl, and I see no issue with spreading the word when it’s a job well done that newbies and veteran fans will enjoy. That said, I aim to balance storytelling with "here are some records you may be interested in having a look at," and that needs some work. Keep the constructive criticism coming, please. It makes Jazz and Coffee better.
Thank you! I've started mucking around with calendar plug-ins for release date reminders. Because, of course, we all need more efficient ways of reducing our bank balances 🙄
Thank you!

Working on a Herbie Nichols article along with my The Night I Met Herbie Hancock at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz / "A Tale of Two Herbies"
I look forward to reading it!
Brilliant 🎺
From your Substack, to my Reminders ... now programmed in, alongside BN Tone Poet series releases. Many thanks!
