What differentiates the Tone Poet series from other recent reissues ?

Cutting/pasting the corporate-speak from their website: The Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series was born out of Blue Note President Don Was’ admiration for the exceptional audiophile Blue Note LP reissues presented by Music Matters. Was brought Joe Harley, a.k.a. the “Tone Poet,” on board to curate and supervise a series of reissues from the Blue Note family of labels.

Extreme attention to detail has been paid to getting these right in every conceivable way, from the jacket graphics and printing quality to superior LP mastering (direct from the master tapes) by Kevin Gray to superb 180g audiophile LP pressings by Record Technology Inc. Every aspect of these Tone Poet releases is done to the highest possible standard. It means that you will never find a superior version. This is IT.

The Tone Poet Series is produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray (Cohearent Audio) from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at Record Technology Inc. (RTI), and packaged in a deluxe tip-on jacket.

I performed "The Tokyo Blues" with a jazz combo back in college, so that record has a special place in my heart

Across the board? Or compared to prior years? Not challenging your take, but curious.

I don’t like the idea of a subscription service. I want the ability to pick and choose.

Heard. There are mixed feelings about subscription services (this one specifically, and in general) and we'll see how this experiment plays out.

From the opening paragraph:

"In addition to the twenty-four new Tone Poet titles scheduled for 2025, Blue Note is launching a Tone Poet subscription service called Tone Poet Society".

This suggests they will be available individually.

Tone Poet Society limited to US residents. That’s a slap in the mouth for international collectors who have been buying these from the start. America First, I guess.

Heard. There's got to be a better way.

I have to say I'm getting rather bored of Tone Poets, staggeringly dull layout of photographs inside of the gatefold. Seems a missed opportunity to me,crying out for an essay on one side. The Classic Vinyl BN series are just as good pressings and also mastered by KG so represent even better value at under $28 a pop. And it's a no from me for a subscription service.
